What Your Skin is trying to tell you
Struggling with the appearance of your skin can be so challenging, whether its acne, eczema, psoriasis, oily skin, dry skin, etc. It is no question that it is hard to go out in to the world when your skin is screaming for help. This insecurity that so many of us deal with is also how so many brands find their target audience, selling you products to put on your face and body with the promise of “flawless” or “glass skin”. What many do not want you to notice is that, many of these conditions are rooted in internal imbalances or disharmonies. With this knowledge, getting to the root of the issue does not bode well for companies that rely on you buying the dream they are attempting to sell, because if you can resolve the internal issue, you will not need the fancy skincare.
TCM Facial Map
The surface almost always reflects what is out of harmony within the organ systems. Micro-systems such as our face, ears and tongues, help to provide practitioners with information that assists us in forming a diagnosis.
In Chinese Medicine, the face is another micro-system. This means that it can serve as almost a map that reflects the other areas of the body. The locations where the imperfections and problem areas occur can then tell us where, in the body, the imbalance is residing. We then look at the quality of the troubled areas, the moisture, if there is pus, the color, the type of acne or rash, if it improves with heat or cold. All of this gives us so much information that we then pair with our observation of the tongue (another microcosm) and the quality of the pulses.
As practitioners, we take all of these fragments of information and start to piece them together, creating a story or a pattern. This pattern is what helps us to create a diagnosis and formulate the treatment plan. Not only is this treatment plan curated to you as the individual but as your body responds or shifts in response to treatment and life in general, we continue to tailor the treatments to your specific needs.
So next time you are glancing in the mirror, take time to see where these marks are concentrated and bring your concerns to a trusted practitioner.
